We aim to support individual volunteers in terms of developing skills, building confidence and gaining experience in their chosen career area.

MAP provides opportunities to people from all communities and backgrounds to gain experience and develop skills in different areas of creative arts and arts education. This may mean assisting with the alternative education programmes, developing projects for community groups, assisting with the development of the exhibition programme or simply helping us out day-to-day.

All volunteers are given a defined role that is specific to their area of interest and given extra support to develop their CV and explore further options for education, training and employment. We place particular emphasis on the recruitment of unemployed volunteers who are looking to move into a certain career.

All volunteers are given a full induction and mentoring sessions with experienced staff to support their skills development and aid understanding of different job roles. We also arrange appropriate external training sessions for volunteers in order to further facilitate their skills development.

Integral to the volunteering programme are appraisal and supervision sessions. These ensure all volunteers feel that they are getting what they need through volunteering and that their contribution is making a positive contribution towards the organisation.

Currently, most volunteers’ work alongside the Arts Education Workers with young people aged 12 - 16. These individuals are all looking to gain experience in order to develop their career in arts and community education. All volunteers are CRB checked and supervised whilst working with young people.
